Crimping a BNC Connector on RG59 Cable - How to

This is Robert and this module will show you how to put a BNC connector on the end of a RG59 Cable. This is your BNC Connector it comes in two pieces, you have the end that connects onto the device and you have the other end with a crimping sleeve that will go onto the cable. Normally the cable comes in sealed together like this. I have already clipped it, you just clip between them to separate them, pull apart until you have enough wire to work with.

At this point make sure to put the sleeve on first. You wanna make sure to put the small end away from the BNC connector. Put the small end on first, slide it out of the way. Then we are going to take our stripping tool, stripping tool has teeth on one side, make sure you put the teeth closest to the hand holding your wire. You are going to put the wire flesh on the other side. Give it a little snug, give it 1-2 turns, you go much further than that and you end up cutting into the copper insulation on the inside. Just kinda push and pull, it will pull off. You are going to get some of the copper, some of the copper is going to be coming off, and the copper mesh in there is pretty fine.

Once you pull that off you can pull the base up and start peeling the copper. Now this is where you are going to see that you cut into your copper some. The copper is very fine and it bends back a lot of it is going to break loose. What you have done is that you have exposed the plastic insulation around the center core. We can take our striping tool again and we are going to strip off about half of what we have exposed. This one is not as delicate we can go around a couple times it will cut through the insulation, pull the insulation off. Now you take your tool the end of the BNC and insert the copper into the center of the BNC.

Once you have done that push your base unit up and over. This section goes completely into this section. You are going to have some over feed of the copper, don’t worry that can be trimmed later. Once you have this in you are going to take your crimping tool as you can see it has two sizes. There are two diameters there’s your larger size and the smaller. Start by putting the crimping tool over the larger area push that base and squeeze. It’s going to give you a hexagon shape all the way around. Now we are going to do the smaller one, the connector is now mounted. You can take a cutting tool and cut off the copper wires that are sticking out.

This concludes how to put a BNC connector on to a RG59 cable.
