GeoVision POS Data Capture Configuration - Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of the ApexCCTV video tutorial on GeoVision POS data integration with your POS system and GeoVision DVR in part 2 we will be discussing connectivity. Once again we will be utilizing GeoVision’s FAQ page at usavisionsys.com/support FAQ POS to be directed to the right page.

This page has an incredible amount of useful information that will make your integration process go as smoothly as possible. I strongly recommend going over all the FAQ page before beginning the integration The most useful page on this page is the data capture box setup guide located at the bottom of the page. Open the article, you will see at the top of the document you will need to do the HyperTerminal test as talked about in part 1 of this series. As you can see the page covers your physical connection from your POS system to your GeoVision data capture box to your printer and from the data capture box to your DVR. Once you’ve decided what type of connection you’ll be using in your environment follow the wiring diagrams in the document follow the red boxes for your connection type for each of your connections to the GeoVision data capture box and that complete the physical connections of your GeoVision data capture system.

The next area the document covers is the dip switch setting and the baud rate rotary switch which sets the communication speed. On the rear of the GeoVision data c box there are 3 dip switches these switches set the various data modes the data capture box can use. Switch 1 sets it to serial or parallel. Switch 2 sets connector type and switch 3 sets the type of connection, straight through or cross over. The table below shows all the switch settings based on what connection type you are using. For example if you are using a db9 serial connection you’d want switch 1 and 3 in the up position and switch 2 in the down position for a db25 serial you’d want all the switches in the up position. For a parallel set up you want switch 1 down and switch 2 and 3 in the up position.

The next setting is for the baud or the communication speed the data capture box will communication with. Remember to set this speed to use the same rate you set the HyperTerminal test in part 1. In most cases this will be 9600, but you can communicate with your POS manufacturer to find out the correct speed for your system. The final topic of this document deals with the data capture v3e version of the data capture box. This unit links back via network connect allowing you to transfer your POS data over your existing data structure system. Connect your POS system to your data capture box, your data capture box to your printer and then from the side Ethernet position connect to your Ethernet network.

We will now return to the FAQ doc and I will show you the flow charts that will allow you to trouble shoot or answer any questions you have about your setup. There are 2 flowcharts on this page and you need to select the correct one based on your output being text or graphic mode output. You can ask your manufacturer what type of system you have. The flowcharts are interactive and if you click on any question you’ll be taken to a document that deals with that specific question. That concludes part 2 of the GeoVision POS and data capture system look for more videos in this series on our website.
